Goal number seven: catching up on the history of television for professional purposes. What I really meant to say was, Goal number seven: my large excuse for just sitting around and watching TV shows. As of this post I am full with Christmas dinner, at my aunts house in the quaint town of Los Gatos, and in the middle of season three of Smallville. I’m realizing this is about the point when I stopped watching it oh so long ago. So far I have almost cried when Christopher Reeve appeared as a guest star, when they pushed the limits of the characters when testing their relationships with each other, and realizing that I cannot marry Lex Luthor because he is a fictional character and ultimately turns really evil.

The show is growing on me; All I can think about it how I hope they never change the theme song. I’m invested in these people and what happens to them on the show. Part of me is really intrigued to watch what happens to Clark’s parents, Lana and Pete since I know from posters that only Chloe remains in the cast photo from the final season (or do they?). I also am remembering the last time I watched a show series from beginning to end and how much more interesting the show was now that I didn’t have to wait a week to see the next episode, or wait for the hiatus to end.

As much TV as I watch and as many DVD’s I own, I do not own a single television series. It is such an extreme gamble to purchase a whole series unless you’ve already seen it. And if you haven’t seen it, why purchase it because someone recommended it? Just borrow their copy, said the consumer. Yet, there is a satisfaction of sitting around with someone who’s never seen the series. You have the enjoyment of watching it again and watching it with someone with a new perspective who is just as excited to see your favorite episodes, as you are to describe them.

I’ve watched Buffy and Angel back to back and thought they ended the series quite well. Did they jump the shark? Probably, however I wasn’t really looking out for that as much as I was looking for the story line to make sense and give the characters closure. Hopefully the same thing will happen Smallville, though a little birdie told me that around season seven the fins start lurking in the water…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

The time has come for me start watching a TV show that I’ve been putting off for years. I watched the first season and remember enjoying it, and might have started the second but life got in the way and now the show is on its 10^th and final season and its time to catch up. While I wish I were talking about Heroes, I am talking about Smallville. I remember what happened when I stopped watching it. My brother stopped talking to me, my best friend threatened to break my dvr and TiVo, and kill my cat, and a number of super secret heroes around the world vowed to take their revenge. I’m happy to announce that after I post this entry I’ll be starting all over with season one. And it better not bore me or I’ll be the one taking revenge.

I think I should change my dream of working at Disney to something simpler, like work on a studio lot, because I’m convinced that the recruiters at Disney have blacklisted me. However, the people at the WB love me. Not enough to give me a permanent job yet, but enough to move me from place to place on the lot. Technically this last temp assignment is off the lot but who cares. It baffled me, as someone who is a workaholic that a division of the workplace literally shuts down between Christmas and New Years. I mean I’m used to having only Christmas and New Years day off but you learn new things everyday. The good news is that I’m being considered for an Exec. Assistant position there that might turn permanent. Wish me luck!

Across the Universe...

I wish I could have put this blog post in sooner, however with the winding down of school, preparing for the holiday travel, going to all the Christmas events at work and personally, and this past weekend that included a funny twist of the universe slapping me in the face and the 2010 Hollywood Style Awards, I’m getting this journal entry done now.

If any of you have noticed my little twitter feed on the bottom of the screen, you’ll see that I enter contests. Yes, I am a sweeper; at least that what we call ourselves. Anyway, I won a trip to the Style Awards and it was fabulous time among celebrities, professional photographers, stylists and costumers. They say it’s all about who you know in Hollywood that will get you somewhere and while this would have better if it was a movie awards, I brought my roommate along who loves this kind of stuff and she got to take pictures and schmooze, and meet fabulous people. I have to say; the two highlights of the evening were meeting Tiffany who works at Tiger Beat (yes they still produce the magazine) and hearing Zooey Deschanel hand out an award. I got interviewed by Hollywoodlife.com for my win and took a picture on the carpet. Overall it was great to get out and experience Hollywood in such a fun manner.

Of course that was on Sunday. Friday I had such a bad week at work. All I wanted to do was crash but my wonderful pushy roommate told me to go out with her some friends and reluctantly I did. We ended up in a town similar to my stomping grounds in Boston in a place called Echo Park and it was fantastic dive bar city. That night I went to two places, The Gold Room where I run into one of my crushes and The Short Stop where lo and behold I run into another crush. Do I believe in fate? Yes, yes I do. But I lost one of them once we got inside but later emailed him; we’ve yet to get together, the other one has turned out to not be interested in women, at all. What does this have to do with my goals? Well, we all can’t be like Sue Sylvester and marry ourselves!!

The first social gathering….

It is amazing what happens when you are thrown into the lion’s den and have to fend for yourself. Granted that might be a little too harsh to describe my first week in a new dept on the WB lot however it is close enough. For those of you coming out here and thinking of “making it,” remember one thing.

Don’t take it personally.

I came here with a strong sense of self and determination, and the desire to accomplish my goals. Somehow in the past couple of weeks I’ve forgotten who I was. I turned to one of my best friends back home and this is what he said “You need to have confidence made of steel to succeed there and those who don't ... perish. Take a look in the mirror and remember the person we all know and love.”

So I did just that, got my mind off the self-doubt and moved forward with my goals.

We had our first party, a housewarming party for our new apt. I met new people and had a blast talking about what made me, me and made me happy. We played Scene-It and totally won 2 out of 3 times, chatted about movies and television, Scorsese and the Twilight gang, watched the hit cult classic Office Space and ended the night with three more countries joining the UN Board at our house.

I guess I haven’t mentioned the UN Board. Well, there is myself of Haitian decent, Alice my roommate of Asian decent, and Bonnie, my other roommate, the Canadian. Together we are The United Nations. A tad bit inappropriate? Maybe, but that’s how we roll, and yes pictures will be up soon.

Last night was focused around goal number 7 and it did just that. You can expand your knowledge of almost anything by discussing it with others you surround yourself with who also have a passion for it. Last night was my little IMDb club, and it will be growing starting with movie night at the house. Because there’s no better way of killing two goals with one stone than sitting around every week watching TV and movies.

In the beginning....

Ten by Fifteen. Measurements? Time Frame? What is this number you might ask.

Well, in the beginning I was going to create a blog dedicated to my journey of fitting into a size 10 by my 30^th birthday, which is on the 15^th of January. However I wanted to incorporate more than just that. Because really how many times can you read about the proper way of dieting and exercising? Lets face it, everyone is different and something that might work for me might not for you. I had plenty of different tries on eating healthy and after 10 years I think I finally found something.

But that’s not exactly what this blog is about. I wanted to keep the name because it was catchy, so then I had to think about what it would be about instead. And just like Emeril Lagasse it came to me like BAM!

Ten things I would hope to accomplish personally and professionally by 2015. Cool huh? Of course then I thought: do I have more professional goals than personal or split them evenly? So for now we’ll split them evenly. And in no particular order (well except for the first one), here they are:

1) Fit into a size 10 by the 15^th of January (pers.)

2) Have a title that requires a business card (prof)

3) Conquer AFI’s ever-changing top 100 list of movies (pers.)

4) Produce a hit TV/cartoon show (prof.)

5) Win an Emmy or Golden Globe for said TV/cartoon show (prof)

6) Work for Disney Studios (prof.)

7) Catch up on the history of television for professional purposes. (prof.)

8) Own property (pers.)

9) Get married (pers.)

10) Adopt 2 kids (pers.)

So there you have it. This is my first blog so I’m not sure what the frequency of entries needs to be, however since I do talk to my self almost every day, I might as well just write it down for everyone to see.
